oh 2-2, i'll always remember you as the level i'd play up to as a kid before giving up. 2-2 is structured very differently from every other level we've seen so far, so let's hop right in.
this level takes place underground... or maybe in a pyramid. it's unclear. everything is super cramped in here, and your jumps will only get you so far. that, as well as the labyrinthian structure, always kind of turned me away when i'd play this game as a kid. and remember those plant guys we talked about in 2-1? oh yeah, they're back, and they're a bitch here. not being able to jump over them makes them a real hassle, especially with no strafing options.
since we are in a temple of sorts, there's bound to be hidden walls, usually containing some goodies. i found two of em in this level, one had some health and item pickups, and the other had an extra life. pretty sure that's the first 1-up of the playthrough, too.
uuuugh, there's this one part near the end of the level that really gets on my nerves. its a maze, and each path you take is one-way only. there's a jet pod in here, so you've gotta go through it multiple times, and on top of all that it's full of those damn plants!
i really like that there's a hole in the ceiling above the exit, so Robbit makes a clean escape.
speaking of which, we're already done. despite its different structure, 2-2 shouldn't give you any trouble, as long as you're good at keeping a map in your head.
